Tribal Leaders Encouraged to Attend Consultation at Pokagon Potawatomi’s Four Winds Casino Resort – New Buffalo

NEW BUFFALO, Mich.  — The 14th Annual Government to Government Tribal Consultation on Potential Future Tribal Set-Aside Funding and on Violence Against American Indian and Alaska Native Women has been extended. Originally set for July 31, demand for attendance warranted additional time to accommodate the tribal leaders.

The Office on Violence Against Women, a department within the Department of Justice, is tasked with reducing violence against women. In compliance with U.S.C 34, a consultation with tribal governments to garner feedback and recommendations on accomplishing this goal, specifically within their communities, is required. The Office for Victims of Crime is also hearing on potential future tribal set-aside funding for the Crime Victims Fund. These two sessions are being held together, creating a three-day event for tribal leaders to connect with federal government officials.

In addition to attending the event, the exhibitor registration has been extended as well. Organizations wishing to share their information with the attending tribal leaders can reserve a table at no general cost; additional fees may be added if the table has A/V requirements.

Concurrent to these tribal leader government events, additional events will be held at the location. These include a Missing Persons Day, where families can speak directly with law enforcement and provide evidence to help find their loved one; a Resource and Info Day, where providers of services for women and their families will be available to answer questions; a Tribal Caucus for tribal leaders; and a federal meeting for federal staff. More information to each specific event can be found on the website.

For a complete agenda of the events, to register as a tribal leader attendee or organization exhibitor, or to read the framing papers on the issues to be discussed, visit ovwconsultation.org.
