LOS ANGELES — The LA Skins Fest, a Native American film festival, announced today they are acceptingapplications for the inaugural NATIVE AMERICAN ANIMATION LAB taking place Dec 9th – 13th, 2019.
The NATIVE AMERICAN ANIMATION LAB is an intensive workshop that develops Native Americans with a current animation project. This lab is designed to offer new access for Native Americans interested in breaking into animation.
“We have a talented community in need of exposure, access, and opportunity. This new endeavor will get more Native American voices in front of the right people who can develop their animation projects and build their animation careers.” Stated Ian Skorodin (Choctaw), LA SKINS FEST Executive Director.
The LA SKINS FEST will invite seven promising Native Americans to a multi-day, animation workshop in Los Angeles, CA in early December, 2019. All participants chosen for the lab will workshop one animation project through one-on-one mentoring, group sessions and peer workshops. The program will conclude with an intensive pitching session for each participant. The purpose of the lab is to further develop the skills of the writers and prepare them for employment in the industry.
This is an in-depth workshop for Native Americans who have a script, a treatment, an original comic book, or visual materials they want to develop into an animated television series or feature film.
The NATIVE AMERICAN ANIMATION LAB was created in accordance with the LA Skins Fest’s mission to improve media portrayals of Native Americans and to increase the number of Native Americans employed in all facets of the media industry
