2019 Ute Indian Tribe Holds Four Directions Run/Walk/Rally For Missing and Murdered Indigenous People

FORT DUCHESNE, Utah — Planning for the Walk/Rally for Missing and Murdered Indian People continues for November 9, 2019. The event will be hosted by the Northern Ute at Fort Duchesne, Utah. The event seeks to bring awareness to Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. The day will include a Four Direction Run, Walk, and Rally. The Rally will be held at Fort Duchesne Community Building, with a feast to end the festivities.

In March of 2017, The Longest Walk 5.2 walked through Fort Duchesne and was treated with much honor. This year the fire for the rally was lit, by Long Walker Jeffrey Moreno from Red Lake, Minnesota. After the initial spark, Trini A. Wopsock, fed the fire, with a lot of love and caring to keep the memory and intention to find the Missing and Murdered People warm and alive. The Rally grew from just a Rally, to a Four Directions Run/Walk/Rally. Lloyd Arrive from Rez Radio in Fort Duchesne is involved in the PR along with KPFA Radio out of Berkeley, California on the show Across Indian Lands with Tony Gonzales.

The administration of the tribe donated money for cloth to make 50 Shawls and 50 Bandanas with the MMIW design that will be distributed to the Walkers.
