LEWISTON, Idaho — A non-Native couple, “playing Indian” in Halloween costumes, were asked to leave a restaurant in Lewiston, Idaho last Saturday for their disruptive behavior.
According to The Spokesman-Review, the couple entered Shari’s restaurant in Lewiston making “war cries” and were asked to leave the establishment. The couple was part of a group of drunk people, apparently out for the night celebrating Halloween early. After being loud with their war cries, a restaurant employee asked the couple to stop being disruptive. The couple responded with some “offensive comments” to a restaurant server and a cook, both of whom are American Indians.
The couple was asked to leave the premises.
Then to make matters worse, the women posted a picture of herself and her man dressed as American Indians on the Shari’s restaurant social media page leaving this message:
“Well, we tried to have breakfast after a fabulous Halloween party with friends and we were kicked out for our Native American costumes!!! Wow!! All I can say is WOW! Never stepping another foot in Shari’s. Never Ever!”
A photograph of the couple has gone viral on Facebook.
“To further clarify, the reason the guests were asked to leave was because of their offensive conduct and comments to our staff and guests,” a spokesperson states in a statement from Shari’s corporate headquarters — apparently not for playing Indian in costume.
Shari’s, in Lewiston, is less than 10 miles from the Nez Perce Indian Reservation, one of the largest American Indian reservations in Idaho.
